Weekend Uniform

Happy Friday! I don't know about you, but I'm super pumped for a 3 day weekend. My brother is coming into town to visit and I picked up my sister from college earlier today so that she can join in on the mini family reunion. This is pretty much what I'll be wearing all weekend. It's flippin' hot out (105 F on our way back from her university), so this will help keep me cool! And, we all know how much I love stripes!

Top- J.Crew; Shorts- American Eagle; Belt and Sandals- Gap; Sunglasses- Target; Bag- Longchamp

Have a great weekend!

Summertime Snack: Bruschetta

Over the weekend I made this great and super easy bruschetta recipe. It's the perfect light snack for summer!

3 or 4 ripe plum tomatoes
2 cloves of garlic, minced
2 tbsp extra virgin olive oil
2 teaspoons balsamic vinegar
5 to 6 fresh basil leaves, chopped
Salt to taste
Parmesan cheese to taste
1 French baguette (I also like it with ciabatta rolls.)

Chop tomatoes into bite sized pieces.

Mix tomatoes with minced garlic, olive oil, balsamic vinegar and salt.

Chop basil and add to tomatoes. (I like to do this last, I think the flavor melds better.)

Stir and add in a dash of olive oil or balsamic vinegar to taste if needed.

Spoon onto bread, add some cheese and enjoy!

Monday Blues

I don't know about you, but I'm really sad that the weekend is over. Katie and I spent Saturday at North Avenue Beach and on Sunday I was in Wisconsin. One of my good friends has a lake house and boat at Lake Geneva, WI. Lake Geneva is one of my favorite places to go to escape the city during the summer. It's only 1.5 hrs away from the city, so it's a great place to getaway to. Going back to work today couldn't be more difficult after spending all weekend in the sun and in the water. How was your weekend?!

My Summer Makeup Routine

During the summer I definitely wear less makeup than I do throughout the rest of the year. Here is what I've been reaching for on a daily basis:

CoverGirl & Olay Simply Ageless Eye Concealer in 205: I use this under my eyes to conceal those beautiful purple bags that I get from lack of sleep. I also use this occasionally as a concealer. It's not the best under eye concealer, so I'm trying to use it up so I can justify going out and purchasing something new. Any suggestions?

Rimmel Stay Matte Pressed Powder in Translucent: I set my concealer with this. It also helps blend everything together and give me a good base for my blush. This is my favorite setting powder. I use this the same way during the winter. It definitely helps keep my foundation stay matte and decrease the amount of shine I would get throughout the day without using it.

Tarte Amazonian Clay Blush in Amused: This is a great pink blush. The formula is super pigmented... to the point where I use a stippling brush to apply it. You definitely don't need a heavy hand with it; hence why it looks like I've hardly used it at all. Do you have any other Tarte blushes you would recommend?

Urban Decay Eyeshadow Primer Potion in Original and Eyeshadow in Virgin: I love this eyeshadow primer. It helps keep my eyeshadow in place and helps them transfer from the pan to my lids with their true colors. This is by far my most used and loved eyeshadow. During the summer I sweep this across my lids and brow bone to add a little shimmer.

Inglot Matte Eyeliner Gel in 77: I picked this up from the Inglot store in Times Square in February. It's a nice deep black and is super creamy to the point of not really being able to be called a gel. I apply this with their eyeliner brush which I absolutely love. I do like the cream formula, but I'm starting to think that gel is more my speed... less of a chance to mess up with a gel formula.

Maybelline Full 'n Soft Waterproof Mascara in Very Black: I have been using this mascara for as long as I can remember. My mom used it when I first started wearing makeup, and it's just kinda stuck! I've tried branching out and find others that I like, but I just keep coming back!

One of my favorite trends this summer is neon shorts. I've been wearing this pair all season. And mixing them with lace is my favorite way to wear them.

Shorts: Express; Top: Topshop; Bracelet: Tory Burch; Shoes: Steve Madden.

New In: Zara Heels

Earlier this month I mentioned that I loved these Zara heels and I finally broke down and bought them (shhh.... I wont tell if you don't). Surprisingly, I only have one other pair of black heels in my closet, and these are way different (I'm trying to justify the purchase here ladies!). These are such a staple wardrobe piece, I can't believe that I don't currently have something like them. But, I am in love! Despite being a little big (I'm an idiot and ordered the wrong size), a cushion added to the ball of the foot makes them fit like a glove. The leather is great quality and they are super comfy! I can't wait to start wearing these out and about! With a flirty skirt/dress for a girls night out (Katie... we need to plan something soon!), or with black cropped pants and a blouse for work, these are going to get a ton of use!

What's In My Bag: Summer Edition

I tend to keep a lot of crap in my purse, but during the summer I make it a point to keep only the things I need on hand. This summer the only bag I've been reaching for has been my Longchamp Le Pliage Small Shopping Bag. The one I own is in Duck Blue, but I love the Bilberry and Gunmetal colors that are still available. Here's what I've been carrying all summer:

Top to Bottom: Kate Spade Wallet (similar) / Vaseline Healthy Hand & Nail Conditioning Lotion / Revlon Lip Butter, Pink Lemonade / Sugar Lip Treatment / Vaseline Lip Therapy / Advil / Hair Clip / Nikon Camera and Case / Apple Headphones / iPhone 5 / Markings Journal

What are you carrying in your bag this summer?

Little Market Brasserie

If you are looking for a great restaurant with great drinks in Chicago, Little Market Brasserie in the Gold Coast is the place to go.

The bf and I grabbed dinner and drinks here the other day and loved it. The best part of the menu: the homemade sodas that you can spike with your choice of rum, vodka, etc.

I got the Banana Passionfruit and he got the Cucumber Melon. So light and the perfect drink to enjoy on a warm city night!

New Fitness Tracker: Misfit Shine

Hey guys! Sorry for the late post today. Let's talk fitness today... I was a figure skater all throughout my childhood, worked at a gym in high school and taught ice skating lessons in high school and all throughout college. So, needless to say, fitness is important to me. Now I don't claim to be an expert or trainer or any of that, but I do know that keeping track of my progress is a great motivator. Around Christmas time I found a new activity tracker that I fell in love with. I received it in the mail on Tuesday and am more impressed with it than I thought I'd be!

Meet the Misfit Shine! They aren't expensive at all and are super easy to use. I downloaded the app and it only took 5 minutes to set up. I can't wait to start keeping track of my activities with this.

Check out this amazing video to see how it works!

Zara's Autumn/Winter Lookbook

Zara released their 2013 Autumn/Winter lookbook, and no surprise here, I'm in love! Here are some of my favorite pieces and what I would pair them with!

I love this with black skinnies and loafers. Throw on a Burberry scarf and call it a day!

I love just how this is styled - with dark jeans. I would pair this with a blazer to make it work appropriate.

Who doesn't love a pop of color?!
I love how simple this shirt is. And I think it's styled beautifully. I would change out the shorts for cut-offs with side zips and sandals.
How great is this for a holiday party? Black pumps and a sparkly pair of earrings or bracelet and you're the life of the party!
I'm kinda drooling over this top! I see myself wearing this with skinnies and boots with a chunky sweater, spending all day in front of my fireplace reading a book.
This is probably the best layering cami that I've seen in a really long time! And, I love that it comes in a few different colors.
I see this with a black a-line skirt, classic black pumps and a statement necklace.

And then there were accessories!
