Fall in the Park

I've been spending a lot time in and around Lincoln Park the past few days since fall is off to a beautiful start in Chicago. I took my camera with me the other day, and here's what I found.

Weekend Wish List: Taupe Color Block Dress

Happy Friday, Ladies! I came across this dress on Pinterest and completely fell in love. And of course, after checking the website, I realized it was sold out (insert a big sigh because a) it's sold out which means it wont be in my closet, and b) it's sold out which means I won't be spending money I shouldn't). So really, it was a good and bad thing. But the more I think about this dress, the more I need to have it. I can see wearing this so many different ways. With sandals in the summer, closed toed pumps in the fall, black knee high boots in the winter... it's just so beautiful. So, I signed up for the email notice when it comes back in stock. I've never ordered from LuLu*s so I'm interested to see what the quality is, as the dress is only $40! Despite being "advertised" as a "juniors" store, I find a lot of their things appropriate for girls in their 20s (like me). Have you ever ordered from them before?

Have a great weekend!

Fashion Week

I've been obsessed with checking the Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week website this week and keeping track of all of the shows happening in New York. Looks like we can anticipate the bright colors and patterns to continue for Spring 2014 ...

My Bad Hair Cut Saving Products

A few months ago I went from having very long hair to very short hair (for me anyways). It was one of those situations where I went into the salon with one idea and came out with nothing close to what I wanted. Having gotten over the fact that I kinda hate my hair cut, I've found a few products that have been live savers, or "bad-hair-cut-savers". With the cut that I currently have, my hair goes flat and lifeless if I don't treat it. And this isn't necessarily the most flattering thing either. So while I was trying to play around with my hair and figure out how to not hate it, I revisited two products that I had previously pushed aside. They weren't doing much for my long hair, but for my short hair? They're ah-mazing!

Left - Bumble & Bumble Styling Cream
Right - Redken Root Lifting Spray

1. I start by towel drying my hair when I get out of the shower, brush it and then let it air dry while I put on my makeup.

2. Next, I take a small amount (below) of Bumble & Bumble Styling Cream, flip my head over and run it through my hair. I find that this adds a ton of texture and helps my hair from falling flat.

3. I part my hair like I would wear it normally and spray the Redken Root Lifting Spray on that part, and then I make a few more parts on either side of the original and spray each of those, as well as a little at the crown. I love this for making the volume that I have at my roots stay throughout the day. You know when you blow dry your hair with no products and it looks awesome for the first 10 minutes? This helps it stay like that all day... no joke!

4. Rub everything together...

5. Flip hair over toilet (to collect all those pieces that would otherwise end up on the floor) and blow dry.

TaDa!

That's it! It usually only takes about 5 minutes all together, and is probably the shortest part of my morning routine! These products have been so helpful in helping me get over my bad hair cut!

Fall Wish List

I don't know about you, but I am definitely ready for fall. I don't know if it's because we're in September or because all the kids have started going back to school. But I am ready for sweaters and scarves and pumpkin spice lattes (Hey, Starbucks - when are those coming out?!). Fall is by far my favorite season. My go to outfit is skinny jeans, a sweater, scarf and flats with a slouchy bag and large stud earrings. With the Labor Day sales last weekend, I already started stocking up on my essentials, even though is was in the 90s in Chicago this weekend. Here is what I have on my wish list for fall.

White After Labor Day? Yes!

This labor day weekend I donned my white jeans in their ceremonious last wear of the season ... or was it? I've decided to throw out the "don't wear white after labor day" rule this year, and transition white pieces into my fall outfits.

This weekend I wore:

Jeans and top: Urban Outfitters; Heels: Louboutins.

While shopping around online, I found some great fall outfits that incorporate white. I love the way white jeans look with dark brown boots. And a great white lace dress is always in style as long as it is toned down with a darker colored jacket or blazer.
