What I Wore: Shopping in LA

While in LA the other day, I made some time for a full afternoon of shopping. And since it wasn't going to be happening in Chicago anytime soon, the sunny LA weather lended itself the perfect opportunity to wear my new gladiator cage sandals. We were staying at the Andaz, where the rooftop pool proved to be the perfect place for this outfit shoot. I paired the caramel brown sandals with a pair of white shorts and a loose fit black top from Zara to give it a slightly boho-chic, casual feel. I will blog what I bought at later date. Hint: gold shorts -- oh, yeah.

Here's what I wore:

Top: Zara; Shorts: Abercrombie; Necklace: Nordstrom; Sandals: Zigi; Sunglasses: Chloe.

Sandals: Zigi.

Wish List: Helmut Lang sweater

Guess what day it is?

Hump Day!

I am currently stuck on the train on my way home... No idea why we are stopped. But it gave me some extra time to finish my book (Jane Eyre), and do a little online browsing. I found this Helmut Lang sweater a while ago and quickly added it to my favorites. Now that it's on sale, I just have to share it with you!

Not only is this a fabulous color (I'm having a gray moment), but I love that the cut isn't boring. I can totally see wearing this with jeans and a tshirt on the weekends and dressing it up for work with skinnies, a patterned blouse and heels. This is one of those pieces that I see myself wearing every chance I get (we all have those right?).

I hope you have a fantastic day! And now that the train is moving again, all I can think about is dinner...

What I Wore: LBD Date

Saturday night, the guy and I decided to try an Italian restaurant near his new house. I decided to dress up an LBD with a statement necklace, and because it's still like 30 degrees here in Chicago despite the fact that spring started last week, I added a black lace shrug. Here's what I wore:

Dress: Nordstrom BP; Shrug and tights: H&M; Necklace: Kate Spade; Shoes: Louboutin.

Love this statement necklace. It dresses up anything!

What I Wore: Navy to a Business Dinner

Happy Friday! Are you glad that it's finally spring? I know I am, even though we welcomed the new season with some snow yesterday. I keep thinking if I wear bright colors I can will the warm weather into arriving!

I wore this outfit when I was in California. We had a business dinner with our sales team from the hotel that we stayed at. We went to a steakhouse and then went to a show, so I needed to wear a jacket since we would be outside for a while. I went with a blazer because, well, because I'm an idiot and didn't bring an actual jacket.

shirt// Ann Taylor
jeans // American Eagle
blazer // H&M
shoes // Vera Wang
watch // Michael Kors

I've talked a lot lately about my love for navy and this is a perfect example. This navy blazer from H&M is quickly becoming one of my favorite jackets. I bought it on a whim and love it! I also love the polka dots on this top... super cute! This is a perfect example of an outfit that I would wear those pink heels with. And by the way, I found another pair that I love.

Have a great Friday and a relaxing weekend! Hopefully the weather where you are is starting to feel like spring.

If you're anything like me, your favorite meal of the day is most likely brunch. For me, brunch includes two of my favorite foods: potatoes and bacon, paired with something sweet: waffle, pancake, crepe, and topped off with a some fruity variation of my favorite drink: champagne.

This past weekend, the guy and I tried Carriage House in Chicago's Wicker Park neighborhood -- and we loved it. We haven't been there for dinner yet, but if their dinner is anything like their brunch we will definitely be back. If you live in Chicago and you are reading this, CHECK IT OUT.

Carriage House boasts modern country fare with a little twist, like if you order coffee, they'll bring you your own personal French press to your table. My favorite part of the meal was the hash potatoes and the donuts, which we ordered to-go. Ah-mazing.

On the Hunt: Pink Heels

Let me start this post off by prefacing the fact that I am not a pink person. Even though I consider my sense of style to be feminine, to an extent I've always found pink to be too girly. But lately, after coming across a blog post about navy and pink, I have become obsessed with adding this color into my wardrobe. Now, I did surprisingly hop on the pink coat trend (even though I was a little late), and I love it! I went through a navy phase a month or so back, and I can't wait to wear the navy and pink combo. And not even just with navy... I can see incorporating these into a bunch of different looks. Here are a few heels that are on my radar:

What I Wore: Business Meeting

While I was in California, my wardrobe requirements went from business casual to business professional. Please keep in mind, everyone's definition of these two categories is different. I'm not much of a suit person, as I think they can be really boring, so I figured as long as I had a jacket/blazer to go with my skirt or pants I would be okay. Here was my look on the first day...

Shirt // The Limited
Pants // Banana Republic
Jacket // The Limited
Shoes // Enzo Angiolini
Watch // Michael Kors
Earrings & Necklace // Tiffany's

Now the story behind this outfit: I hadn't packed these items to go together. My sister Katherine and I sat down and planned out over 14 outfits for my 7 day trip and this was NOT one of them (see picture below). But, I got to California and changed my mind about what I was going to wear. Originally I had planned to wear this top with jeans and a blazer with flats for a casual dinner meeting. I do really like this though. And it was super comfy which was great for a day running around the hotel/convention center.

Also, can we talk about my hair? It's finally getting to a good length. I cut it way too short in July and it's finally starting to grow out, so I'm really happy!

Till next time!

What I Wore: Saturday Night Out

As I write this post, I realize that it is yet another date night outfit for a BBQ joint -- about the third BBQ date night post that I've written -- forcing me to re-assess me and the guy's eating habits. More on that to come ... Since the bar we were going to in Pilsen was called Honkeytonk BBQ, I thought now would be a good time to bust out the denim shirt. I paired it with a pair of Joie leggings and brown boots.

Here's what I wore:

Top: BP Nordstroms; Leggings: Joie; Boots: Steve Madden; Necklace: Tiffany's.

What I Wore: Flight Home

After spending all week in one form of a suit or another, I was super happy to put on my jeans and a comfy sweater for my flight home. I'm always cold, and even more so on flights, so I make sure that I dress comfortably, and warm!

T-shirt, Banana Republic; Sweater, The Limited; Jeans, American Eagle; Shoes, Sebago; Scarf, Nordstrom; Watch and Bag, Michael Kors

Paris Fashion Week: Isabel Marant Spring/Summer 2014

As fashion week in Paris comes to a close I will openly admit I didn't pay too much attention to the shows this time around. I saw Chanel did a "supermarket" themed show which was awesome, but my attention was mostly on one of my favorite French designers Isabel Marant. The show featured lots of pastels, and flowly, lacey fabrics. One of the reasons I love Marant so much is for the feminine ease in which she designs. Here are some of my fav looks:

California Dreaming

We're back!! After a crazy week, Katie and I are both back home and are enjoying it very much! As crazy as the week was for me, the warm weather was amazing. I didn't even mind the rain in California! You people need to come to Chicago when it rains... I really think you blow it out of proportion. Here are some snapshots from my week. Outfit posts will be up later this week!

We were able to go outside without jackets! Now let's put that into perspective... It's -2 in Chicago right now and I do have my winter jacket on.

There is no better way to end a really busy day than with a glass of wine and a great book. By the way, I'm loving David and Goliath by Malcolm Gladwell. It's great!

Despite the rain, it was still beautiful!

This was one of my favorite desserts from the week. Mango sorbet with fresh, glazed fruit.

Good morning beautiful! Loved the view from my room!

You can't visit Disneyland without having something Mickey inspired!

For my coworker and I, this was our first conference with our company. So at the airport we stopped at the wine bar... Because, I mean, why wouldn't you? Wine bars and flying are an absolutely fantastic idea!

Thank you California. I'll miss you, but it's nice to be back home!

And no, this picture is not intentionally blurry, but at midnight, after being gone for a week, this is pretty much how it feels!

As great as it was to be away, it's been so nice to be home and sleep in my own bed and use my own shower. I have Thursday and Friday off to do loads of laundry (ya see what I did there!), catch up on some sleep and get my life back in order.

What have you been up to? I haven't watched any tv, so fill me in on the news and gossip!
