What I Wore: Watermelon Pants

Guess what? I had the day off today and it was fabulous! I slept in, did some reading, worked out, looked at apartments and took a nap. Btw, who else thinks that nap time should not be limited to kindergarten? I think they should be implemented for all ages.

So, I had the day off because I had a meeting all weekend and I wore my new watermelon colored pants from Banana Republic. I love this color and really this entire outfit!

Sorry for the shoddy photo quality... I only had a minute to myself. #bathroomselfie

Top // H&M
Pants // Banana Republic
Jacket // The Limited
Shoes // Michael Kors
Watch // Michael Kors

I can't wait to wear these pants more during the summer. I have a ton of ideas for them. I bought them a size bigger because they were fitting a bit snug in the fitting room but they stretched out a little during the day. I probably could have gotten away with my normal size but I like that they're a little more loose (read - I can eat a big lunch and get away with it!).

And, I love this ruffle top! I'm not normally one for ruffles, but this one has me rethinking that opinion. It's fairly new, so you can still probably get it in stores.

Till next time,

My Weekend Wrapup ... in food ...

As I sit here and write this on Monday morning, I am still in a bit of a food coma. This weekend the boy and I decided we were going to play it low key and have a night in with some chicken and a Breaking-Bad-season-5-athon. We followed that up the next morning with an amazing Sunday brunch and a trip to my favorite bakery near my house in Lincoln Park. It sounds like a lot, I know. This week I will resume my summer running schedule — for sure.

Here's a round-up of what/where we ate. All great Chicago spots. If you live here, try them out!

Leghorn Chicken
Located on the corner of Augusta and Western in the East Village.
As a self-proclaimed connoisseur of fried chicken, I loveddd this place. GREAT sandwiches!

The Winchester
Located on the corner of Winchester and Augusta in the East Village.
Recently named one of the best new restaurants in the city by Chicago Magazine, this cute and cozy cafe is open for breakfast, lunch and dinner. The lemon/granola/blueberry waffles I had was ah-mazing.

The Winchester's waffle with lemon, granola and blueberries.

The guy's breakfast quiche with homemade potatoes.

Vanielle P√Ętisserie
Located on Clark in Lincoln Park
This new bakery is one of my fav spots around my house. They have hands-down the best macaroons in amazing flavors like lavender, rose and coconut.

May & June Book Club: The Goldfinch

Happy Friday! I don't know about you, but this beautiful spring weather has me in the best mood!

Earlier this week I posted a picture on Instagran (follow me: @nataliehinman) of a book I picked up for my train ride home. Turns out, Katie just started reading the same book ... And that's when the brilliant idea of a Girls & City Book Club was born.

The May & June selection is The Goldfinch by Donna Tartt, and I'm excited to start reading it.

Here's how it works: We will read one book every month or two, depending on length. Since this month's selection is rather long, we will read this until the end of June. At the end of June we will host an online discussion of the book, here on Girls & City. If you have already read it, please feel free to join in (just don't start yet ... we don't want any spoilers).

We will announce the following book selection a few days before the start of the month so that you have time to either buy, download or check-out from the library. (I have a soft spot for local bookstores!)

So... Ready? Set? Read!

Have a great weekend and Happy Reading!

What I Wore: Easter Brunch

Can't believe I'm writing our 100th post!!

This past weekend was warm and springy, so I broke out my Easter best which included lots of pastels. I love the mint color and pairing the mint WAYF top with the gold and mint Kate Space necklace really tied the outfit together.

Here's what I wore:

Jacket: Juicy Couture; Top: WAYF; Skirt: Love Andie; Shoes: Louboutin.

Necklace: Kate Spade.

What I Wore: Staples

Hi, my name is Natalie and I wear boring clothes.

After doing all of my laundry this weekend (this feat deserves a round of applause!), I realized that I buy boring clothes. Not that they're boring when you put an outfit together. But I truly believe in the power of wardrobe staples. They make mornings like today, and all other Mondays for that matter, much easier.

I'm the type of person who pre-plans my outfits in the shower. My mental check list goes something like: "What's clean? What haven't I worn lately? What's the weather going to be like? Anyone to impress today? Do I have time to iron?" And that is how my outfits are born.

And here are some of my favorite staples:

Black cropped ankle zip skinny pants (the stretchy kind are my fave)
White button down blouse (this one has buttons going down the back too!)
Black flats
Simple jewelry

I paired this with a pink jacket from H&M to add a pop of color and shield me from the rain.

What are your wardrobe staples?

On Location: Santa Fe

This week my travels found me in Santa Fe, New Mexico -- a place I haven't been to since I was a kid. Rich in history, I found out it is one of the oldest cities in the nation. To that point, I stayed at the Hilton Hotel, which is housed in a 350-year-old building. But enough about history and on to shopping ... turquoise jewelry and geometric prints are so hot right now, and if you want the real deal, Santa Fe would be a mecca for you. The Native American market outside the Palace of Governors in downtown Santa Fe features all kinds of turquoise rings, earrings, necklaces and bracelets. While there, I bought a pair of turquoise earrings, which I'll post at a later date. All in all, a very cultural trip.

On my way into town from the airport.

Wedding Season

Wedding season has officially started! I had my first wedding of the year last weekend and it was fabulous!

There weren't a crazy number of people which made it super nice. You could talk to everyone and there was plenty of room. Here are some pics from the day.

I don't have a full outfit picture, but I'm going to another wedding next month and will probably wear the same thing (don't judge... There won't be any of the same people there so I can get away with it)!

There ceremony was outside and they had a beautiful day for it! The reception was in a gorgeous glass room that overlooked the property grounds. Overall it was a great way to start the season!

Till next time,

What I Wore: Date

My obsession with Zara has recently reached a whole new level, and I wore one of my latest purchases from there -- a classic white sleeveless top -- on Saturday night. This top is great because it can be paired with leggings, tucked into silk pants (like how I wore it here), or matched with some bright shorts for a breezy summert style. So versatile and so chic.

Here's how I wore it on Saturday night:

Top: Zara; Necklace and Pants: Nordstrom BP; Shoes: Louboutin.

Necklace: Nordstrom BP.

Sephora Sale Purchases

Good morning and happy Friday! I don't know about you guys, but I'm so glad this week is almost over... Only 8.5 hrs left. But whose counting?!

It's been one hell of a week. We had a big meeting last weekend that was extremely stressful. And, someone that I work with has gone missing and there are no signs of her anywhere. Her family has hired a private detective and my office has been bombarded with calls from other organizations and other people that she worked with. It's terribly depressing to hear about it on the news, but you never expect it to happen to someone that you know. I found out on Sunday afternoon, and that just kind of set the tone for the week, and explains why I didn't post on Monday.

A highlight from the week was the Sephora Beauty Insider sale. I let my mom know that it was going on this week (ended yesterday), so we met there last night and spent a full 2 hours playing around. It was great to not only spend time with her, but also indulge in one of my favorite vices... I'm a recovering makeup addict btw.

So we played and searched and had a grand old time. We both walked away extremely happy!

There were a few things I was waiting to buy or stock up on, and finally did!

Can we talk about this Marc Jacobs nail polish in Blue Velvet? I mean how beautiful is that blue! I've been in love with this color since it came out and could finally justify the splurge with the sale. It reminds me of OPI's Yoga-ta Get this Blue!, but I haven't had a chance to look at them side-by-side.

Speaking of splurging because of a sale, the Fresh Sugar Lip Treatment was definitely one of those. Now, I do think it's a bit ridiculous to spend more than say, $5 on a lip balm, but this is the best! It smells like lemon poppy seed muffins and not only moisturizes your lips, but also gives a great shine.

Everyone has been raving about the NARS Creamy Concealer and I finally understand why. It's amazing! It covers my under-eye circles and any redness. I haven't tried this on it's own, without foundation, but I'm going to this weekend.

I love my Tarte Amazonian Clay 12-Hour Blush in Amused. But, I was looking for something a little more peachy, rather than straight up pink, and Blissful was the perfect choice. It gives a natural hint of color without being too overpowering, like Amused can sometimes be. I also find that I can be a little bit more heavy handed when applying Blissful than I can with Amused.

I like my brows. They're not Cara Delevigne great, or Lilly Collins enviable, but they're good. I have noticed that they're a little sparse in the front (closest to the nose), so I've been looking for something that I can apply real quick in the mornings to fill in the lighter spots. I didn't know what I wanted last night when we were there, but I am super happy with the Anastasia Beverly Hills Brow Wiz in Taupe (formerly Ash Blonde). I love the spooley on the end, and the color works great for me.

With some of the points that I've saved up as a Beauty Insider, I got the First Aid Beauty Facial Radiance Polish. I haven't given this a go yet, but I'm excited to this weekend. I love these sample sizes for trying out things I'm not sure I'm going to like.

Not shown is the Origins Super Spot Remover Acne Treatment Gel. This stuff is great for any breakouts. It doesn't dry me out, but it gets rid of the redness and calms blemishes down. I'm going to run out of my current bottle in about a month, so I figured I'd stock up.

Did you pick up anything in the Sephora BI sale? What should I put on my shopping list next time?

Have a great weekend!

What I Wore: Malibu Dinner

Last post from Malibu, but I just wanted to share with you this gorg Novella Royale dress I wore to dinner the other night. This maxi is perfect for a day-to-night look and one of the coolest parts about it is made from recycled fabrics. I paired it with a drop stone necklace from Nordstrom's and Sam Edelman sandals. Not shown: When it got cooler out, I threw on a cropped brown leather jacket over it for a chic, causal look, perfect for a mid-week dinner date.

Here's what I wore:

Dress: Novella Royale; Necklace Nordstrom; Shoes: Sam Edelman.

Such a chic pattern.
My fav dinner spot, Geoffrey's.

On Location: Malibu

Last week, the guy and I decided we needed a little break so we headed out to the "best coast" for some r&r. I tried out my amateur photography skills (with my iPhone) in Malibu and while flipping through the photos today and couldn't help but share them with you. Truly gorgeous. Here are a few of them. I hope they bring you much zen on this Friday as you head into the weekend.

What I Wore: Kelly Green

Two posts in a row from me?! Aren't you guys lucky ;)

I'm not feeling a skirt and heels today so I opted for something a little more casual but will still fit the business casual dress code of my office.

Top // Banana Republic
Pants // Banana Republic
Blazer // The Limited
Shoes // Sebago
Watch // Michael Kors

I should have worn this top for St. Patricks Day. But, I didn't. Anywho, this is a pretty typical work outfit for me. Skinny trousers, blouse and blazer. Normally I would wear black flats or heels, but I wanted something more comfortable today so I chose my boat shoes.

And, my sister would be proud of me... this is a break away from the monotone, all black and gray outfits that I typically wear. And I love how versatile this Kelly green color is. Black, gray, navy... it works with all of them!

Sorry for the shoddy quality of the photos. That's what happens when you don't have anyone around to help you out.

Have a great day!

A Shoe I'm Lusting Over For Less

I've been looking to replace my beige flats for a while (seen here). They're not that great quality to begin with, but they've definitely seen some love. It's time for them to retire, so I've been on the hunt for a new pair. Last week or so I tweeted a link to the shoe below:

And while $175 isn't really breaking the bank, it's more than I want to spend on a pair of flats. So, I've been looking, and this morning (at 5:15 am) I was checking my email (this is normal), and one popped up from Banana Republic that they're having a 41% off sale today(I'll just let you imagine the squeal of delight I made)! So, naturally I started browsing and came across these:

So I obviously got really excited that 1) the starting price of this shoe was less, 2) that there is a 41% off sale and 3) they have them in my size. Pulled out my credit card, and they're mine! Great way to start a Tuesday! If you get them today with the sale, the math comes out to $40 off! Which to me is a great deal.

I know we don't typically post on Tuesdays, but I had to let you know about the sale. Use code BRAPRIL41 at checkout.

UPDATE: I'm seriously debating about ordering these in black too. Thoughts?

Have a great day!
