What I Wore: Cold Afternoon and the Perfect Cardigan

I woke up on Wednesday thinking that I could make it through the day without a jacket. The sun was out, the weather app wasn't predicting anything too intense, so I thought I'd brave it and be fine. Well, I was wrong. I went out during lunch and froze. And then on the way home, I realized that if I was going to have to wait for the bus (which I did), that I needed something to keep me warm. So I hopped over to Banana Republic to see if I could find a sweater... and I did. And it's perfect!

necklace // Tiffany's
lipstick // NARS Never Say Never

I don't know about you, but I have a mental list going of different items I know I want to add to my wardrobe, that I'm always on the look-out for. A chunky knit cardigan has been one that I've been after for a really long time. Surprise, surprise when I found it when I wasn't even looking.

Typically I wouldn't buy something like this during the summer, but since it was cold and I know I'll get a lot of wear out of it, I decided it was worth the splurge ($100 isn't too bad for something I know I'll get a ton of use out of). I can see wearing this so many different ways, so keep your eyes peeled for this to make more appearances here on Girls&City.

I started with the basics... very similar to this look and a bright lip (NARS Never Say Never is quickly becoming a favorite). Love how cozy this look is while still being professional enough for me to wear to work.

Mr. was excited for his frozen pizza dinner (I really am a great cook... I promise!)

What are some things that you are constantly on the lookout for?

What I Wore: Casual Summer Day

I love that laid back, loose looks are so on trend this summer. I'm loving the loose fitting tops, pants and shorts. Even though they are not showing curves in a 'body con' way, I find them super feminine and very comfortable, especially for hot summer days.

Below is what I wore over the weekend. I took a loose, basic Splendid tee and paired it with some Free People shorts that featured a big bow, making it even more feminine.

Here's the rest of the outfit:

Top: Splendid; Shorts: Free People; Sunglasses: Ray Ban; Bag: Badgley Mischka; Sandals: Akira Chicago.

Loving the loose fitting look.

Handchain & ring: Nordstrom.

What I Wore: Wedding Guest

One of my friends from college got married on Saturday. Apart from acting as her planner, I was also excited to attend and mingle. Here's what I wore-

Dress // Apricot Lane
Shoes // Jimmy Choo
Bag // Michael Kors
Earrings // Francesca's Collection

I've had this dress for years and was really excited to finally have a reason to wear it. I debated whether or not to add either a navy or white belt. And according to my mom, it would have been too short. So, I headed moms advice/comment.

This is it for weddings I think this year. There may be one at the end of August, but I'm not sure yet.

Have a great day, and a fantastic Memorial Day weekend! I did some shopping that I'll share next week!

To Skort or Not to Skort?

One of this season's hottest trends is the skort. They are everywhere — taking me right back to my five-year-old days where I'm pretty sure half of my wardrobe consisted of skorts. I've been toying back and forth with the style, trying to decide whether or not to embrace it. While shopping on the other day, I stumbled upon a few that caught my eye. While the jury's still out for me, I can't deny that skorts are everywhere. Here are a few that I've liked and contemplated.

What I Wore: Spring Lunch

This past weekend I reassessed my summer wardrobe and did a little shopping to find some much needed summer basics. One of these basics was a classic pair of cargos.

I broke out these new cargo skinnies for a stroll through Chicago's Wicker Park. These cargos are super versatile and very comfortable. Since they are skinnies, I wanted to elongate them and my legs, so I wore them with my classic beige Louboutins. I paired them with a classic white button down from Madewell.

Here's how I wore them:

Shirt: Madewell; Cargos: Zara; Shoes: Louboutin; Bag: Louis Vuitton.

Sunglasses: Chloe; Rings: H&M.

Lunch at Goddess and the Grocer.

Girl Crush: Blake Lively

Let me start off by saying that I am straight... I like guys. But I am completely okay admitting that another woman is attractive. Case in point... Blake Lively. I mean that girl has it going on! If I were a guy, I would totally tap that. I've been following her red carpet moments this past week at the Cannes Film Festival, and she is killing it!

And let's be honest, her husband is pretty dreamy too! I don't have anything negative to say about any of her looks so far. Which one is your favorite?

What I Wore: Walk in the Park

There nothing better than spring in Lincoln Park. All of the flowering trees, blooming daffodils and green buds make for the best springtime stroll.

I recently pulled out one of my favorite Oxford shirts and paired it with my favorite pair of distressed Hudson jeans for a little edge. I added my favorite Badgley Mischka crossbody bag, and voilà, the perfect spring outfit.

Here's how I wore it:

Top: Rugby Ralph Lauren; Jeans: Hudson; Crossbody: Badgley Mischka;
Sunglasses Ray Ban; Sandals: Tory Burch.

A good Oxford is a summertime staple.

What I Wore: Lazy Sunday

This weekend the weather in Chicago was gorg. It was so exciting to finally feel the warm sun again and chill on the beach. I spent a lot of time lounging around outside, so my weekend outfits reflected that lazy feel.

Here's what I wore on Sunday:

Sweater: Free People; Jeans: Hudson; Loafers: Juicy Couture; Sunglasses: Ray Ban.

What I Wore: Casual Friday

TGIF! I don't know about you, but I'm super happy it's Friday!

Casual Friday's are the After wearring professional clothes all week, I love putting on jeans and comfy shoes. Today was a fantastic day! I was able to get away with no jacket - Awesome! It's days like today and yesterday that really make you appreciate those few nice days that Chicago gets.

Shirt // J.Crew
Jeans // The Limited
Blazer // H&M
Shoes // Sebago
Necklace // Tiffany's
Watch // Michael Kors

And, I walked the two miles from the office to the train station today!

On another note, I mentioned a few weeks ago that someone from my office went missing and she was found this week. She has gone to a better place, so I spent the majority of the week making arrangements for some people from my organization to attend her service this weekend. So, it's been a rough week.

Margaritas and chips and sala are calling my name.

Oh, and Happy Mother's Day to all you moms out there!

What I Wore: Ballet

The last ballet of our Joffrey Ballet season ticket subscription was this past weekend. We saw Romeo & Juliet, and it was amazing!

Here's what I wore:

Dress: WAYF from Nordstrom; Necklace: Kate Spade; Shoes: Louboutin.

Spring colors.

Bright Summer Lips

One trend I’m loving this summer is a bright, summery lip. There are so many bright pinks, oranges and corals to choose from. A bright lip is a great way to make any outfit pop while bringing a little edge to your look. I love wearing a bright lip when I am dressed head to toe in all black, and I especially love it when I am wearing all white.

Here are a few of my favorites summery colors that will be making their way into my makeup bag soon!

Mac's Tangerine Dream - $16

Nars Schiap - $26

YSL Corail in Touch - $35

And my favorite ...
Chanel 43 La Favorite - $35
