What I Wore: Rockin' Red Carpet

Last Friday, I was honored with an award that supports women in leadership roles in the music industry. The event was held in California, and as soon as I found out there was going to be a red carpet, I started planning what I was going to wear.

I went with this loose-fitting, LBD from Heartloom. It had a boho vibe, but still looked chic with classic black Louboutins for the red carpet.

Please excuse the selfie. All the shots I could get my hands on to blog this with cut off my legs, so I had to take one full view once I got back.

Here's what I wore:

Dress: Heartloom; Necklace: Nordstrom; Shoes: Louboutin.

Wednesday Inspiration

I thought I'd do something a little different today and share with you the pins that have been inspiring me lately.

  1. I have been recreating this look all winter, but for some reason haven't shared it on Girls + City yet... bad blogger Natalie!
  2. I know we're still weeks away, but I'm already thinking about Valentine's Day. Mr. and I don't normally go out, but we just might this year. I am loving blush pink. Add to that a gorgeous statement necklace... I'm sold!
  3. One of the things that I'm missing from my winter capsule is an all winter white look. I didn't include white jeans or pants, and I'm bummed about it. There have been so many great winter white looks lately and I definitely feel like I'm missing out.
  4. I love leather looking leggings. Enough "l"s for you? I love my Babaton leggings, but they aren't as shiny as leather. This might be something that I need to add for my spring capsule.
  5. Her makeup is perfection. The light pinks and glowy skin. Not to mention her bed hair... I'm in love! This is my type of makeup look.
Happy Hump Day!

What I Wore: Feeling Preppy

Silk blouse // J. Crew
Sweater // Banana Republic
Jeans // American Eagle
Flats // J. Crew
Scarf // Gap
Bag // Michael Kors
Watch // Michael Kors
Nails // OPI, Bastille My Heart

I put this on today and felt rather preppy. I went to public school all my life, but I feel like the preppy sweater, skirt and knee-high socks would have been right up my alley!

Happy Monday!

New In: Leopard Heels

If you saw my Gifting Myself post back in December you'll recognize these heels. I mentioned that they were on my wish list, but that if Santa decided to bring me something more awesome I would still probably go out and get them for myself. Lucky for me that my mom Santa does read Girls&City and surprised me with these! And I am in love!

Because I wear a lot of monochrome looks, prints and shoes like this are the perfect way to spice up an otherwise boring/plain outfit. I can't wait to start styling them. Even though I have a capsule wardrobe with a strict rule to not buy any new pieces until the end of February, I think it's okay to include these! Because hey, I didn't buy them... Santa did! Therefore (because I totally need to justify this ;) )I'm still within the rules of my capsule! It's been too cold in Chicago to take any pictures, so hopefully I'll have something for you soon with these.

What I Wore: Fur, Baby

Something I've been searching for for a long time has been a quality, faux fur vest. I've looked everywhere for one, and lucky for me, found one under the Christmas tree this year. From Club Monaco, I am completely in love with this piece. Pairing it with a basic tee made for a sophisticated, easy look for a date night at Charlatan in Chicago's West Town.

Here's how I wore it:

Vest: Club Monaco; Leggings/Tee: Nordstrom Rack; Boots: Dolce Vita.

If you are looking for great winter comfort food in Chicago, try Charlatan!

What I Wore: Blanket Scarf

Everyone and their dog has been obsessed with blanket scarves this year... Me included. I wasn't necessarily looking for one, but I stumbled upon this one from Francesca's Collection and am so happy I picked it up. It was great for when I was traveling and it has easily become my favorite cold weather accessory. For a casual/cold day around the house and running errands, this is the perfect look!

Tank // Banana Republic (similar)
Cardigan // Banana Republic
Leggings // Babaton
Shoes // Aldo
Scarf // Francesca's Collection (love this one)

Have I mentioned that I am in love with my slip-ons from Aldo? I think I'm slowly convincing my mom and sister that they aren't "man shoes". What do you think of this trend? It's not something that I originally thought I'd be on board with, but I love it!

What I Wore: Holiday Party

The holidays are over... not to state the obvious, but they are. And I'm not sure how I feel about it. I'm torn between being relieved and sad. Relieved because I'm tired of eating all the time, and there was a whole lot of family time (a little goes a long way), and sad because it's just so much fun!

For one of the holiday parties I wore this fabulous cashmere sweater that has quickly become one of my favorite items in my capsule wardrobe. I was also able to wear my Babaton leggings with this sweater because it covers my bum (ya' know... the whole leggings aren't pants thing... Which side are you on?).

Sweater // Ann Taylor (same style, different color)
Leggings // Babaton
Heels // Enzo Angiolini (similar)
Earrings // Givenchy (old)

I was originally going to go with a light pink/nude lip, but I looked a little washed out, so I went bold and absolutely love it! It adds the little something that this look needed!
